Inclusive Education is an integrated approach to cater to the needs of all kinds of students in a regular school system.
Its main objective is to take care of the needs of special children with any kind of disability such as Learning disabilities
in the form of Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Conduct Disorders,
Slow Learners, Partially hearing impaired or handicapped and of those who are from lower socioeconomic background.
With every school moving towards the inclusive education as it is the need of an hour, our school has also taken
initiative to cater to the needs of such children by having regular in house counselling and guidance program for
them and by developing a resource centre to help them with academic material, special aid such as a scribe and refer
them for special education to our expert resource personnel. Our motive is to ensure that these children get all the
necessary aids for education as our regular school students. Their vocational skills are also shaped up by involving
them in various kinds of co-curricular activities, events. Amongst these students the ones who are competitive enough
to take advanced level academic courses are identified and even shifted to our regular school for higher studies.
Also these children are given opportunity to complete their education through Open school exam after class VIIIth education.
Also, we have integrated Life Skills Education in our regular school system and we believe it is an integral part of
schooling for children to grow healthy and adjust well with all kinds of situations and people in life.
In Life skill education period we ensure that children with special needs are given equal opportunity to participate with
other children through various group activities, role plays and it has been seen that they learn better in a more practical
manner. Not only students are sensitized to the needs of special children they are taught skills like Empathy-to be
able to put oneself in other's shoe, Self-awareness to know their strengths and weaknesses in order to achieve higher
goals they set for themselves, Creative Thinking - To be innovative, Critical Thinking - to be able to analyse positive
and negative outcomes of every situation their own actions etc. Thus, once these skills are inculcated and absorbed by
their personality it will help them for a lifetime.
Hence Significance of Life Skills Education in Inclusive
Education has been seen to a great extent as it relates to the concept of multiple intelligence now being focused
upon in education and takes a modern approach to teaching and skill building that one can't develop from the
conventional approach i.e. just out of the theoretical knowledge gained from books. These are learnt by practically
experiencing various situations in a psycho-social context.
We have recently also collaborated with an NGO- DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION OF INDIA where various experts are providing
services in diagnosing and assessment of these disabilities and other psycho-social problems in children as well as
providing remedial intervention in terms of special education to them.
We will soon be holding various workshops to train our teachers too since teachers need to be prepared to deliver inclusive
services to students with disabilities as its important is being realized now because of changes in law and policy emphasising
students' access to, and achievement in, the general education curriculum.
Inclusion of students with disabilities in general education environments will support improvement in terms of educational
achievement and non-academic outcomes of students with disabilities.
